Get in the Game

As a father of four boys, all who have been involved in junior sport, I am pleased about Campbell Newman’s Get in the Game Policy, especially GetStarted which will provide 40,000 club registration fee contributions for children who can’t afford to join up.

As a former Director of the Runaway Bay Junior Rugby League club and current Chairman of the Titans Foundation, I believe it’s important that every child has a chance to participate in junior sport as it’s an essential part of their social development. It teaches them team work and builds confidence and self-esteem.

Junior sport is an important part of community life and sadly many young children are excluded due to financial or social constraints.

Get in the Game is a $16 million LNP initiative to assist community clubs with grants for equipment and field improvements.

The policy compromises:

  • GetStarted: to provide 40,000 club registration fee contributions for kids who can’t afford to join a sporting club ($6 million).
  • GetGoing: to provide funding for small equipment and programs to sporting and recreation clubs to develop and expand sporting services ($2 million).
  • GetPlaying: for funding sporting and recreational clubs to improve infrastructure and facilities ($8 million).

It means future generations have improved opportunities to get involved in sport, increasing the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders.
