Introducing the INCA Collection

The Hanging SpaceThe INCA Collection is a collaboration between designer Camila Felizardo of Gold Coast label Bahagia Designs and Marissa Bowden and Sarah Schoeller of online store The Hanging Space.

Bowden and Schoeller wanted to create a collection of on-trend, unique and affordable statement jewelry exclusive to their online store, which stocks labels by talented emerging and independent Australian designers.

After collaborating on the design for each piece with Bowden and Schoeller, Felizardo, who originally hails from Brazil, used her high quality design, sculpture and craftsmanship to create a one-off collection inspired by the pyramids of ancient civilizations from Mexico and South America, reflecting the Incas and Aztecs.

Felizardo has avoided a mass produced range as seen in many main stream boutiques, by lovingly designing, sculpting and handcrafting each piece to produce a truly unique collection where not one piece is the same.

The collection is made up of a signature pyramid cuff and statement ring, as well as double knuckle rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings using both brass and the highest quality sterling silver to offer two different price points.

The INCA Collection is available online now at http://www.thehangingspace.com.au/ and is already proving to be a hit.

Inside the world of a fashion blogger

Sophie MacGinley is a Gold Coast girl with a busy day job, ultra cool blog ‘Peppa Hart’ and loads of style to boot. I caught up with Sophie over eggs benedict at Vintage Espresso to find out more about her style, her loves and her place in the wonderful world of blogging.

How did Peppa Hart begin?
I am actually looking to start an online store in 2011 with my best girlfriend, so a blog was a great way to start getting our name out there prior to launching. I also have a busy day job, so blogging each night is a good escape.

“peppa hart is a place where i share photos, art and fashion. anything i find beautiful or inspiring or maybe both. i hope you enjoy reading it as much as i like writing it. love love x”

Where do you find inspiration?
Other blogs such as Fashion Toast, Gary Pepper Vintage, RUSSH, Jak & Jill, Bleach Black and Studded Hearts, as well as the websites of labels such as Sass & Bide and Style Stalker which have great videos, I also draw inspiration from my girlfriends, art, horses, family and the 70’s & 80’s.

Celebrity style you’re loving?
Jess Hart, Isabelle Lucas, Alexa Chung, the Olsen’s and Sienna.

Describe your personal style?
It’s a mix of basic pieces such as a singlet from the likes of Sportsgirl or General Pants, paired with a crazy oversized shirt or cape and vintage shorts. I mostly do oversized on the top half and I love vintage t-shirts. Most of my wardrobe is black.

A peak inside Sophie’s wardrobe:

  1. This belt was part of my grandmother’s vintage collection, I love animal print!
  2. I sourced the fabric and designed this sequin floor length cape and then had it made in Bali.
  3. These boots were a gift from my best friend Roxy picked up on her recent visit to the USA.
  4. I have a fetish for black bags with studs or chains. These are my faves, Thomas Wylde (left) & Chanel.
  5. I love silver jewelery. My collection mainly consists of chunky rings, stacked bracelets and men’s watches. Every piece I own has meaning.
  6. This Cassette Society swimsuit was a gift from my girlfriends.

What do you think about fashion on the Gold Coast?
I think it’s getting much better now as there are more choices with online shopping and the trend towards vintage.

Where do you shop on the Coast?
On the Gold Coast it is really only Le Deux in Burleigh and The Village Markets. I mostly shop online at Topshop, ASOS, Nastygal and Urban Outfitters (for homewares). I also get a lot of my pieces made in Bali.

Check out the Peppa Hart blog.

Introducing Coast designer Kate Campbell

This week I caught up with the beautiful and talented Kate Campbell, an emerging Gold Coast designer with style and class beyond her years.  After pledging to follow her dreams into the fashion industry at the ripe old age of 11 with her best friend, Kate has never looked back.

Having recently completed her fashion studies, Kate has been getting hands on experience working for one of the Gold Coast’s industry stars Lisa Brown.

In 2008, when Kate won her school designer of the year award, Brown was the presenter and offered her a trial on the spot. Brown was so impressed with Campbell’s speedy sewing skills and quality craftsmanship she just had to have Campbell on her team. Two years on and Campbell is still loving every minute of the experience.

‘Lisa is amazing, she collaborates with her staff and often seeks our opinion on ideas, and she is very creative’.

However it doesn’t stop there for this blonde beauty, with Campbell swiftly establishing a label in her own name. Her pieces are inspired by beautiful fabrics and the way they fall on the body, the Kate Campbell range is currently stocked exclusively with online boutique The Hanging Space.

Campbell says the Gold Coast is no longer the poor cousin when it comes to fashion and in fact believes it is now rivaling our interstate cities.

‘Fashion on the Gold Coast is definitely evolving; I see it as a blend of coastal chic and beautiful florals’

‘It is no longer about denim shorts and bikini’s’.

As for her own personal style Campbell is ultra feminine and mature beyond her years. She is heavily influenced by her stylish interior designer mother.

‘I want my own label to bridge the gaps, catering for women aged 18 to 60 with different pieces for different age groups.’

So what is next for this clever Gold Coast girl?

A beautiful floral dress from the Kate Campbell collection.

‘I am hoping for a trip to Indian Trade Fair in 2011’

‘As for my label I am hoping to really get working on more samples, have flexibility and complete control of all aspects of my business including direct access to my customers’.

3 Quick Questions….

Favorite labels: Alberta Ferretti, Chloe, Miu Miu, Carla Zampatti, Lanvin & Balmain.

Favorite piece I own is: a Country Road mist grey cape with mesh detail. It is really dressy so I only wear it occasionally.

Top of my wish list: to create a beautiful collection and reduce my stress levels!
